Insignia
A free replacement for the original Xbox Live service, which ended in 2010. The website lists more than 200 supported games, including Halo 2, with no subscription or ads.

Project Cartographer
A fan mod that restores online multiplayer to Halo 2 for Windows Vista, first released in 2015. It is multiplayer-only and not supported by Microsoft or 343 Industries. A September 2026 update removed the Games for Windows Live dependency and added a server browser.
