Revival DirectoryCOMMUNITY GAME REVIVALS

Old games. New possibilities.

PlayStation 2 and PlayStation 3 games back online

Sony and its partners closed the servers of many PS2 and PS3 games. Community projects restore some of them, with very different requirements.

Three approaches

PlayStation revivals work in different ways. Some only need a DNS change on the console, some need a modified console, and one even runs in a web browser. Read the requirements before you start.

EverQuest Online Adventures: Sandstorm

EverQuest Online Adventures closed on 29 March 2012. Sandstorm is a live server written from scratch since late 2020. It can be played in a web browser, with a desktop client, with the PCSX2 emulator or on a real PlayStation 2, using an ISO made from your own disc. It supports the Frontiers (US) and original PAL versions.

Metal Gear Online: SaveMGO

Konami closed the PS3 servers of Metal Gear Online on 12 June 2012. SaveMGO runs revival servers for Metal Gear Online on PS2 and PS3, and for Metal Gear Solid: Portable Ops on PSP. Playing on PS3 hardware requires a modified console.

Test Drive Unlimited 2: Project Paradise 2

The official Test Drive Unlimited 2 servers went offline in November 2018. On 2 November 2026 the Project Paradise 2 homepage listed both its PC and PS3 servers as online. You need your own up-to-date, activated copy.

Warhawk and SOCOM: PSONE

Sony shut down Warhawk on 31 January 2019 and SOCOM: Confrontation on 28 January 2014. PSONE restores PS3 online modes through a DNS change and lists both games as available. Its website shows no dates or server status, so this directory marks it Unknown. A DNS change sends your console's traffic through the operator's servers, so decide whether you trust it first.
