Disney's online worlds and their fan revivals: what to know
Toontown, Pirates of the Caribbean Online, Club Penguin and Virtual Magic Kingdom all closed. Fan revivals exist for each, with different levels of risk.
Four closed worlds
- Virtual Magic Kingdom: 23 May 2005 to 21 May 2008
- Toontown Online: 2 June 2003 to 19 September 2013
- Pirates of the Caribbean Online: 31 October 2007 to 19 September 2013
- Club Penguin: 24 October 2005 to 30 March 2017
The revivals
Toontown Rewritten is an independent, free revival with its own launcher and news. The Legend of Pirates Online recreates Pirates of the Caribbean Online with seasonal events, new expansions and a public status page. Club Penguin Journey is a fan-made recreation that promoted a Halloween Party on 2 November 2026. MyVMK, launched in 2013, recreates Virtual Magic Kingdom in the browser, including on phones and tablets.
None of them is official
All four projects are independent of Disney. Disney still owns these games, and it has taken down other Club Penguin private servers in the past. This directory flags Club Penguin Journey and MyVMK as carrying a high risk of closure. Do not spend money or effort on the assumption that any of these projects will last.
For parents
Several of these worlds were made for children. Fan servers set their own rules: MyVMK, for example, asks players to confirm they are 13 or older. Read each project's rules and safety guidance before letting a child sign up.
